The Grand Ole Opry is celebrating its 5000th Saturday broadcast this week. 14 Opry members are scheduled for Saturday’s show, plus headliners like Carrie Underwood and Luke Combs played Opry shows leading up to the 5000th celebration.
Rose Lee Maphis and Sonny Osborne passed away this week. Celebrate the older performers whenever you have the opportunity, because time goes by way too fast. I regret not seeing more of the past legends when I was younger. Last month, Sue Thompson, Bob Moore, and Don Maddox passed away.
There are new albums this week from Hayseed Dixie, Hayes Carll, Eddie Montgomery, Travis Feutz, Natalie Jane Hill, Mick Mullin, Elvis Shane, Mitchell Tenpenny (Christmas), Drew Green, Shy Carter, and Southbound 75.
George Strait is releasing a video for his 2019 song “Weight of the Badge” today. It’s always special to hear from George Strait, the artist with the most number ones in the history of country music. I have seen George a couple of times at all-star type events where he sang just one or two songs, but I have never seen him in full concert. Fortunately, a few days ago, I was able to get a ticket to see his show with Willie Nelson and Randy Rogers in Austin next April.
Let’s see what random bits I can find on YouTube to share:
April Mae and the June Bugs released some new Halloween originals. The group has Americana and rockabilly influences. If you’re looking for some new Halloween music, be sure to check out this group.
TradmanTX frequently uploads mountain dulcimer videos. Dulcimers have a following among enthusiasts, but you don’t hear much dulcimer on the radio.
Collins Trier released an original instrumental with hammered dulcimer and double bass.
